A Challenge to the Second!

Image borrowed from http://www.demopolislive.com/gallery/images/1/1_the_right_to_bear_arms.jpgThe Supreme Court will take up the case, The District of Columbia v. Heller very soon that will possibly change the legal meaning of the Second Amendment. For the very few of you who don’t know, this case was pushed up to the Supreme Court to settle the matter of whether or not the District of Columbia’s ban on all functional firearms is unconstitutional.

I don’t want to spend too much time on my soapbox, since everyone seems to already have a strong opinion on the matter one way or the other. I also pretty well get sick of hearing it all (including from myself).

But I will say this. I am a strong believer in our Bill of Rights. I support the fundamental freedoms given by the Constitution vagrantly, passionately and relentlessly. If there is anything other than close family and friends that I would die for it this world, it would be defending our constitution from those that may try to take those freedoms away from me.

The right to defend ourselves is one of these freedoms.

And for those of you out there who especially love to put an emphasis on second amendment rights over others (ahem… my father in law) please don’t forget the other amendments, most notably the Fifthand Sixththat our law makers have decided to take a giant shit on in the name of national security as is the case in places like Guantánamo Bay.

If you should ever feel the extreme personal conviction to personally endorse and support any facet of our Bill of Rights, I believe it is your duty as an American to support them all.
