The Future of Light Bulbs is… Salmon Sperm

Salmon Sperm LEDIt’s pretty well accepted that LEDs are the future of light bulbs.  We find them in all sorts of appliances now and as the technology advances we will eventually see them in our light fixtures at home, our TVs and maybe a few other places too.  They’re ultra efficient producing almost no heat, super durable and extremely long lasting.

Well, some nifty researchers have recently made a few unusual advancements in the development of LEDs.  A professor at the University of Cincinnatti discovered he could enhance the brightness of LEDs using salmon sperm!  And to top off the irony, he’s getting cooperation from the air force in the research.

Does this mean one of the branches of the US military is actually stockpiling sperm?  Hmm… what would they be using massive amounts of fish sperm for?  Torturing terrorists?

To most this appears gross on many levels, but I find myself becoming a bit envious.  Why can’t my baby batter do anything awesome like say, emit light and energy.  Oh well, one can always dream.
